The Sun has just begun to rise over the Pride lands; slowly bring light, lifting the shadow that has been caste over the land. It is quiet and peaceful. Everything is still, except the Sun which is slowly and graceful climbing higher into the sky. It is the beginning of a beautiful day…
Suddenly, far away in the distance, a sound interrupts the silence… coming closer and closer. Two lions come into view, dashing across the Pride lands, in chase. Their paws smash with great thuds against the ground as if it were a giant drum. As the Sun rises higher, some light shades on the pursed lion. His coat is a Med-light brown, his eyes are a greenish blue, his mane is black and a recognizable scar is across his left eye.
His face is filled with confusion and fear as he tries to outrun his pursuer. As he dashes forward, he looks back only to see the lion try to claw his hind legs. He leaps, just in time as the lion’s claw comes down slicing the surrounding vegetation only to get stuck, giving Kovu a little move distance between him and his deadly pursuer. Then, Kovu notices a large gorge in front of him. The same gorge he’d had last seen his mother die, but now there was a beech tree, that had fallen and was gently balancing between the two sides of a gorge. Quickly, he takes his chance for escape and sprints across the old rotten tree. As he runs, he feels the tree move underneath his paws. Suddenly, when almost to the other side, the tree loses balance and falls. The black lion feels himself being pulled down with the tree as it descends to his painful demise.
Using all his strength left, he leaps, but by that time he was already too far from the ledge. He tries painful to grab it …only now gravity was taking effect. His paw is but only inches away, he stretches his arm to its limit. Kovu makes contact with the ledge but he can’t get a grip and slides helpless down the rocky cliff side. Lucky for Kovu, he finds a crack in the stone, which he clings to with one paw. While holding on for his life, he looks down into the gorge. At first he sees that it is dry, plain and a very long way down. Then unexpectedly the gorge takes new shape and he sees his mother, Zira, hanging on below him, while the water flows beneath her. She looks up at Kovu…
Her eyes and face are full of sorrow as she reaches for Kovu but then …she falls. Kovu looks away as he hears the scream of his dying mother. The thought of watching it again, was too unbearable. Finally he looks back into the gorge. It has turned back into its original form… but the scream still echoes.
After a few seconds to recover, the black lion begins to slowly kick and claw his way up the rocky wall side. Finally, he hauls himself over the top. Kovu sits, panting heavily, but his breathing is silenced by an angry roar. As he turns around, he finds himself facing his pursuer, that had been trapped on the other side. The lion steps into the light. His coat is a golden-orange, his mane is red and his eyes are a light brown… filled with frustration.
“Simba, I can explain…” but before Kovu could begin to speak, he is silenced yet again, by another roar, only louder than before.
“Not, another word, Kovu!” Simba growled as his paws dug into the ground while gritting his sharp white teeth.
They both locked in stare with each other, both filled with a mixture of emotions. Simba thoughts are mostly filled with angry and confusion. He was struggling to make up his mind. He had started to get more attached to Kovu… Simba couldn’t believe it; everything had been going so well …better than it had ever before, but what Kovu had done was unthinkable, he could have killed... Simba shook his head in disbelief, at the thought. Now Kovu’s eyes were engulfed with fear as he stared into the king’s eyes, which, had seemed to have unbelievably darkened. Finally Simba made his decision (ever though, he knew it was too light of a punishment for the crime Kovu had commented). The Lion king stood up straighter as if trying to tower over Kovu; He keeps a neutral face, showing no emotion…
“Leave Kovu… Leave the Pride lands and never ever return” when he finished, Kovu froze, dumbstruck…
He had not meant for any of this!... but he knew he would get nowhere trying to defend himself or he’d make matters worse. After a long period of silence, Kovu did as the Lion king commanded, with his head low he turned and ran into the remaining darkness. Right then, a crack of thunder echoes over the Pride lands. A black cloud moves to replace the Sun and out of all odds… it begins to rain.
The Lion King 4: The Beginning of the End
Kovu was lying in Priderock’s cave when he woke; he yawned then stood up. He looked down to see Kiara right next to him, still sleeping peaceful with a smile on her face caused from the happy dreams dancing in her head. Kovu couldn’t help but smile she was just so …beautiful. The black lion then looked around the cave; all the lionesses (pridelander and outlander) were sleeping as well. But he didn’t see Simba, Kovu quickly guessed that he had gone out to the waterhole to “think” as he had once put it, but Kovu and everyone else knew he just went there to relax and daydream. Kovu slowly (not trying to wake anyone) walked outside of the cave. As he exited the cave, he saw the Sun was just coming up over the Pride lands. The sun was a beautiful bright orange as it raised higher into the sky, shining light on everything, big and small. Suddenly for some unexplained reason Kovu began to climb to the top of Pride rock.
Finally at the summit, he stared with great wonder and awe at the Pride lands below. There he could see the grassy green plains and the abundant of life starting a new day. It was like beginning on top of the world, free and alive… for a moment, he lost himself. All Kovu wanted to do was to look down upon the beauty of the kingdom. Suddenly, a gust of wind came and brushed across his face. It felt so gently and soothing like it was somewhat …alive. Kovu just closed his eyes and relaxed. The feeling of the wind was just so peaceful …so pure he didn’t want it to stop as if his life depended on it. Kovu then just sat there, reeling back and forth with the movement of the wind.
Suddenly the gust of wind died down and Kovu opened his eyes. He felt his instincts telling him he was being watched. There was a low whisper “…Everything the light touches is our kingdom” Kovu turned and was shocked to see, Simba standing right next to him. As Kovu stared at Simba with great grief, the king didn’t look back. Simba was focusing his eyes on the Pride lands as if Kovu wasn’t there. It also seemed he wasn’t talking to Kovu at all, but as if he was talking to himself …reminding himself of something, reviving a memory. After a period of silence, Simba glanced back at Kovu,“Those words were taught to me a long time ago…”Kovu stared at Simba, even after he had again looked out over the Pride lands. “That was when I first learned about the circle of life…” hearing the words, Kovu now wasn’t ashamed but more curious. “The great what?” Simba couldn’t help but let out a low laugh while Kovu became more confused and pluzzed. Simba turned to face Kovu “You will learn it soon enough …if you are to be king.” Kovu eyes widened, becoming king had never crossed his mind before. He didn’t even have a clue on how to run a kingdom. As if reading his mind the king said “Don’t worry, I will teach you everything I know” but the expression on Kovu’s face showed he still wasn’t very satisfied. Simba then added “…You will also have Kiara to guide you” Kovu finally took his eyes off Simba and looked out over the Pride lands as well. He turned back to ask Simba a question but at that moment, Kiara walked up to them.
Kiara had been woken up by the noise of talking, even though she couldn’t make out the words. She soon found the source of the noise; her dad and Kovu were sitting at the top of Priderock, side by side chatting. She, always being the curious one decided to see what they were talking about. But when they saw her and stopped, she knew it was none of her business. Kovu was the first to speak “Good morning, Kiara” he walked over to her “Good morning to you, too Kovu” they both muzzle. As soon as they stopped Kiara spoke “Today’s my lesson you know?” Kovu got a worried face “but what about the lioness’ hunt?” he questioned. Kiara smiled “I don’t think they mind if miss this once” Kovu also smiled… Kiara was funny, loved to have a great time (even if it involved some danger) and most of all free spirited. Kiara glanced back at her father, to see if it was alright with him. The king sighed then smiled “Fine, you go have fun with your lesson …but may I borrow him for two more seconds” he asked “Sure thing, daddy” Kiara answered. When she had started her way down Priderock, Simba whispered into Kovu’s ear “…Whenever the lionesses and Kiara are on their hunt or whenever you’re alone come and find me at the waterhole …I need to talk to you about a few things” Kovu nodded in reply “Come on Kovu!” Kiara yelled, who was already at the bottom. Kovu raced down to meet her, while Simba went inside the cave to sleep. When Kovu got to Kiara, they both started to walk towards the Pride lands. When they were about sprinting distant away from Priderock, Kiara started to give Kovu a playful look, grinning while staring him down with her brown eyes. “What?” questioned Kovu? Suddenly Kiara touched Kovu’s left side and leaps twice in front of him. “Tag, you’re it!” She said playful getting down on her front paws, laughing and smiling. Kovu stopped walking and cocked one of his eyebrows “Kiara, Kiara when will you ever grow up!” The smile on her face slowly disappeared, her ears hung low and she just sat there staring at Kovu with confusion and disappointment. Kovu started to walk slowly towards Kiara …she didn’t move with the same expression fixed on her face. Suddenly, when Kovu was about a foot away, he lunged forward to tag Kiara but she quickly leaped out of the way. Kovu’s paw hit nothing but air… and the smile on his face disappeared in shock that his brilliant plan had failed. Kovu looked up to see Kiara staring at him, giving him a look… a look that was practically saying Come on, is that your best shot? They both smiled and laughed as they both chased each other through the Pride lands.
Director note: I really f**ked up that chapter :)))
Chapter 2: The Hunt
About 30 minutes after Kiara and Kovu had left, Nala had awakened. As the lion Queen stood up, she slowly stretches and looks around the cave. She sees that Samba and the others lionesses were sleeping. She also notices that Kiara wasn’t there but she was too tired to care …she knew she’d be alright. Nala doesn’t notice that Kovu was also missing, too… Nala then walked outside to wait for the others to wake up.
Soon one by one they woke up and waited outside with Nala. Vitani was the last one up. She let out a short moan as she stood up. The darkened lioness looked around noticing that the others had disappeared. As she walked outside, she saw that they had been waiting for her…it was time for a morning hunt. “Vitani, are you last one?” Nala questioned. “Yea…” Vitani answered, kind of rudely but Nala ignored it. “Good, now does anyone know where Kiara is?” there was short silence. Finally one lioness said, “Well, Kovu is not in the cave either” then another added “…their probably both out in the Pride lands” Nala sighed, she had forgot all about Kovu, but why? “Ok, we’ll just have to do this one without Kiara” Nala leaped off the small mount rock that she had been standing on. The queen lioness then took point in front of the Pride. Finally, they were on the move and antelope was on the menu.
In the hot and bright African sun, a small herd of antelope wanders hopeless around eating the delicious long green grass. Everything is quit except the sound of grass being slowly munched and chewed. The antelopes were too busy eating to realize that they were being watched. In the large part of the grass, the Pride lay prone …waiting for Nala to give the order. She slowly moves in closer to get a better look, she see the herd is mostly huddled up in one generally area, which is in the very center of the grassy plain. Nala also notices a large patch of flowers on the opposite side of the herd. The lion Queen starts to conduct her plan while trying to keep her cover.
In the very back of the Pride, Vitani lays low and waits. This was her seventh time hunting in a pride. Even though, she wasn’t really hunting at all, but more observing. In the Outlands, because of the scarcity of food, they would always hunt alone and what they got was theirs and only theirs (expect if Zira demanded her share). So for right know, Vitani had decided to just hang back and watch how it was done. She didn’t want to go charging in and mess everything up. Even though she didn’t hunt, Vitani still got her share of food. She knew that she would have to make up for it…someday.
Nala looks back at the Pride; she then notices that Vitani was in the very back. Nala looks away and sighs heavy. Right after Vitani’s second hunt, Nala had realized that she wasn’t participating, but Nala didn’t really care, she was actually kind of glad… Honestly, Nala didn’t fully trust Vitani yet. When Zira had tried to take over the Pride lands, Vitani attacked and almost killed her… and when she thought about it, if it weren’t for Kovu and Kiara stopping the fight she probably would have killed her. Even though, Nala knew Vitani was going through some rough changes… especially hunting for some reason. It was still very odd, since the other outlanders had seemed to adjust the very first day. Finally, Nala finished observing and returned back to the Pride.
When she made it back she whispered, “I see a large patch of Blue Rhino flowers on the other side of the herd” she then pointed her muzzle at two lionesses, whispering their names. The lion Queen whispered their names so quietly, that Vitani couldn’t make them out. “…you two will crawl to the flowers and wait for rest of us to chase the herd towards you and as they pass pick at least two off” Nala looked back at the antelopes for a moment. She continued “…but be careful, there is a lot of stones where you’ll be crossing to get around the herd without being noticed…do not to make any noise.” The two lionesses nodded and were off. Nala signaled the rest of the group to move up.
As they were about 30 yards away from the herd, they halted. Nala lifted her head above the high grass. She saw that the antelopes were still in a huddle position and the two lionesses were in position, ready for the command. Nala slowly grinned “Perfect” she looked back over her shoulder to face her Pride… It was time. Suddenly, Nala charged with the rest of the Pride following, close behind. The antelope had reacted quickly, at the very moment Nala had taken her second step forward. All of them were now running… right towards the Rhino flowers. Behind the flowers the lionesses waited, claws already retracted. They held their ground till they last two passed. The first lionesses pounced from behind and clawed into one of the antelope’s sides, pulling it down to an abrupt halt. It quickly trys to get up. The lioness quickly raised its other paw and went clawed the antelope’s throat. The cry dies down. Now the other lioness had finally now jumped, but was too late and was now chasing the herd. The lioness knew it was hopeless but she had to try. She started to gain more speed while struggling to breath. Lucky for the lioness, one of the antelopes had been tripped by a rock that was hidden within the tall grass. The lioness quickly leaped on to the antelope and clawed at its throat. Its cry also dies down. Nala, now standing on a large hill, stares down at the retreating herd…the hunt is a success.
Director Note: Very cheesy chapter :P The only reason the beginning of this chapter is in the story is just to make it longer.
Two blue beautiful butterflies sit on a smooth rock near the basin of a tree, right on top of a small hill. As they rested there, slowly flapping their wings, the sound of laughter comes closer and scares them away. Suddenly, Kiara and Kovu come into view. They are laughing, smiling, and on their hind legs in a playful fight. They both are slowly making their way up the hill. Finally, Kovu tries to steps back but find their nothing there to step on. As he starts to fall back he drags Kiara down the hill with him. They laugh as they tumble in a giant ball together. When they reach the bottom, Kiara was on top of Kovu, almost pinning him down. They both stare at each other and smiled awkwardly. Kiara (noticing she was still pinning him down) bushes and lets him up. As Kovu gets to his paws, they both hear a cry in the distant. “Help!” almost instantly they turned to each other with worried faces. It was Timon.
Kovu was still standing there when Kiara had started to sprint towards the sound of the voice. It wasn’t till she was about 10 yards away that Kovu followed. His reaction had been delayed for some reason, probably because he was just starting to get to know Timon and Pummba. It wasn’t long before they found him. Kiara was franticly looking, side to side, trying to spot Timon. When that failed, she ran to the top of a huge hill, in the hope of getting a better view. Kovu was about 5 yards away when she had founded him. “There he is!” she yelled, and then she smiled and let out a short laugh. Kovu didn’t know what she was laughing about till he got to the top with her. He also looked down and laughed. Timon was beginning chased by his best friend Pummba, down a dirt path which had been formed over time by the hooves and paws of the other animals. “…stop it Pummba, I was just hungry that’s all!” Timon explained while still running and zigzagging crazily down the path. “You ate my greasy beetles!” yelled Pummba as he pursued him. Timon looked desperately for a way to escape. He then spots a hollow log out of the corner of his eye. He darts right into the opening of the log. When inside the log, Timon lets out a sign of relief “Wow…that was a close one!” He turns around (looking at where he had enter) only to see Pummba charging at full speed towards the log. “AHH!” Timon cries as the 200 pound warthog rams head first into the tiny log opening, SMASH! When Timon opens his eyes, he sees that Pummba’s head has been lodged into the log, and now stuck. Timon gets up, smiles and darts for the other log opening. Pummba then starts to stand up (on his hind legs) with his head still stuck in the log. As he does, Timon (who almost to the other side) feels the log becoming steeper till it is almost practically vertical. He jumps and clings to the edge of the log. As Timon holds on, Pummba (still on his hind legs) tries to balance the weight of the log on his head, swaying side to side. While they both yell insults at each other, Kiara and Kovu watch them on top of the hill. After a few laughs, they both slowly walk down the hill towards Timon and Pummba. When they make it down to them, Kovu lightly lifts his one paw and puts it on the middle of the log stopping the violent swing. As he does, Timon loses grip and falls deep into the log. When Timon opens his eyes, he sees he is holding on to both of Pummba’s tusks. He looks up to see Pummba staring down Timon with his yellow crazy angry eyes. Suddenly, Kovu with all his strength brings his paw down to the ground, smashing the log into little harmless fragments of wood. When the dust settles, Timon is still on Pummba’s tucks. Pummba runs around in circles, trying to shake the tiny meerkat off. Kiara tries to talk “Guys, stop it!” they continued, ignoring her. Finally, Kiara glances at Kovu with an annoyed face. Kovu got the message and roared. Almost instantly, Pummba stop in his tracks and as if for the first time realizing their presents. “Princess Kiara…” Timon said. Pummba let Timon down off his tusks. “What’s going on?” Kiara demanded. Pummba was the first to talk “Well, it all started when me and Timon went looking for some grub…we found a good spot and started searching” Timon butted in “and that is when I smelled the most delicious and most tasteful thing in all the Pride lands…Greasy beetles!” Pummba added “…though someone hogged them all up without even sharing”-“well you would know a lot about that wouldn’t you pig-boy”-“What did you call me!” exclaimed Pummba. “Enough” Kiara stated loudly, she sighed and gently said “why don’t me and Kovu help you find some more…” she paused for the moment, trying to remember “…Greasy beetles”. Timon laughed “Darling, the reason they’re so rare is that they can hide almost anywhere…it was a miracle that I found a handful of them!” Timon finished and crossed his arms. “Well maybe you can describe them to me… just in case” Kiara suggested. “Well there green”-“and big” added Pummba “Yeah and their very slipper….” As they both described to Kiara, Kovu started his way over to rock not too far away. When he got to the rock, he saw it was alomst twice weight and size of Pummba! He wedged his paw under rock and started to lift it. He struggled at first but then found there was some mud underneath, giving him more leverage. As he was about to tip it all the way over, Timon finished explaining to Kiara “…and most of all, they are known for their distinct and breath taking smell” As the rock flipped over, Kovu quickly covered his nose with a twisted face. A smell so disturbingly and foul had been hiding under the rock… and now had been discovered. Still holding his nose, Kovu took three steps back and shouted “Is this what you were talking about?” They all turned their attention to Kovu and started to walk towards him. As Kiara got closer she smelled it, halted and covered her nose as well. Timon and Pummba though had a very different reaction. Instead (with a bright smile on their face) they raced over to the spot where the rock had been tipped over. “Greasy Beetles!” they both shouted and sure enough, big green slipper sticky beetles were crawling all through the mud that had been hidden under the rock. Immediately, the two plugged their head into the smourgus board. Kiara and Kovu slowly backed away and then ran away laughing. Timon brought his head out of the mud for only a second. “I told you Pummba, he’d come in handy”
The stars had just begun to come out when Kovu and Kiara were about 700 yards from Pride rock. They had been walking straight for it while both staring up at the stars, trying to find weird star formations. Kiara exclaimed “Hey look that one looks like Pummba!” Kovu look to where her muzzle was pointed and laughed softly, “Yeah…Hey that one looks like Pride rock” she also laughed “Yeah your right” and for the moment look down at each other. Kovu was the first to talk “…Kiara, I’ve been wanting to tell you something” Kiara stopped and looked at him, puzzled. He walked two more steps, stopped and looked away from Kiara. “I haven’t been very truthful to you…I haven’t told you everything about the old me” The lion princess walked up to his side while the black lion still looked away. ”When I stilled lived out in the outlanders, Zira had a plot that I played a important role in” he took a breath and continued “the fire in saved you…wasn’t natural” she stared at Kovu, confused “Nuka and Vitani started the fire, so I could save you” Kiara questioned “Why?...” Kovu looked at the ground below his feet “because I had to gain your father’s trust, to join the Pride…so I could play my role” Kiara became impatiently “What was your role?” Kovu looked away a mixture of emotions clouded his face “To kill the king, Simba” he whispered. He looked back at Kiara ashamed. She was first shocked but then Kovu was raised by Zira who’s only desire was to see Simba died… why wouldn’t she try to use him to kill him, like she had done with the other outlanders. She went closer and nuzzled Kovu “what does it matter now …you did the right thing”-“that not what my mother thought” Kovu quickly snapped, backing away from the cuddle. “And on the first day I joined the Pride, I almost did …but then you showed up” he added “when?” Kiara said confused. “Right before your first lesson, remember? I was behind that rock, watching your father…” Kiara looked down at the ground trying to remember. Finally, she did… she had snuck up on Kovu right before her lesson, near the waterhole. When she thought more about, the look on his face… he was angry. She again moved closer and cuddled Kovu “You don’t have to worry about that, like my father used to say, put the past the behind you” Kovu shrugged “I guess you’re right.” They both started walking again.
After about a minute of silence, Kiara spoke “…you know I never did had my lesson today” Kovu raised one of his eyebrows, giving him a cocky and over confident look. “Well then, why don’t we have us a little lesson right now…a speed lesson” Kiara grins “really?” Kovu smiles “Yep, first one to Pride rock” They both stopped and got in a sprinting position. Kovu cleared his throat “On your mark, get set…” Suddenly, Kiara charges forward laughing. Kovu chased after her “Come on, No fair!”
